Sometimes, you just need to watch a beach sunrise and mountain sunset in the same day.
Jericho Beach Sunrise
There is nothing like getting up before dawn and making your way alone through a sleeping city to the beach to await the sun. With a day off from work and a break in the infamous Vancouver rain, I headed to Jericho beach, one of the few east-facing beaches in the Vancouver area, for some much-needed sunrise therapy. From this vantage point the sun pierces the city skyline right through the centre as it ascends.
Rain keeps falling, I keep forgetting, I need a sunrise….
I look at the sky, the beautiful sky,
Now everything will be fine
I’ll be outside, I’ll be outside, I’ll be outside.– “Sunrise” by Winterbourne
Seymour Summit Sunset
The very same day, I was overjoyed when a friend invited me to snowshoe to Mt. Seymour’s 1st peak to watch the sunset. I can’t honestly think of a time previous when I’ve watched both in one day. My friends were rocking split-boards with skins, but I went up the old fashioned way with snowshoes on my feet and a snowboard strapped to my back. We were a bit delayed at the start so we had to push pretty hard to make it to the summit in time for the sunset. The sun, once again, put on a glorious show as it continued its journey around the earth: sunset therapy at its finest.
Follow, follow the sun
And which way the wind blows
When this day is doneBreathe, breathe in the air,
Cherish this moment,
Cherish this breath
Tomorrow is a new day for everyone,
Brand new moon, brand new sun– “Follow the Sun” – Xavier Rudd
